Weight Loss Challenges and Sugar – The demise of Health
Sugar is undoubtedly one of the worst modern, nutritionally driven causes of ill health in the US. Sugar is ubiquitous and deadly. Where is it hidden? How can you avoid it? How does sugar wreak havoc on our bodies?
Most people think:
Protein becomes protein in the body
Fat becomes fat in the body
Sugar becomes sugar in the body
However this is not always true. For example, cows don’t eat meat and they have protein on them. Fed grass as a healthy diet, they are able to bulk up their muscle mass with incredible strength.
Let’s talk about sugar
Sugar is devoid of any nutrition whatsoever. When you consume sugar, the brain registers the calories you consume and never gets the signal that you have consumed anything nutritious. The chemoreceptors in the stomach are not stimulated because there are no nutrients in sugar. Without the nutritional density to trigger the brain in to a “stop eating” mode, the body will continue to desire more food – which leads to overeating and weight gain. Sugar automatically make you eat more because you are not getting the nutrients that you need.
Lets talk about the Liver
When the liver sees the extra sugar and you are not directly utilizing the sugar for metabolic demands such as exercise, the liver stores it (extra calories) as fat- not just in your thigs and hips, but in your liver as well. Your liver becomes poisoned and literally turns into foie grois. It will continue to make harmful chemicals like LDL, increasing your risk for atherosclerosis and heart disease.
Is sugar a food?
Sugar is the number one food that Americans eat today. It is not a food. It is toxic to the body and should be avoided as much as possible. It is in all of the “white foods”:
- white sugar
- whit pasta,
- white flour,
- white rice, etc….
Per capita, the USA produces the equivalent of 3500 calories of food every day. Sugar is in everything we eat it seems, and sugar has become one of the cheapest foods to produce. The low cost of production is due to sugar subsidization. In turn sugar is at our fingertips, everywhere we turn and has become the single most common ingredient in just about everything we eat. It is promoted in every product and in ads on television. We are sold sugar on a daily basis and overtime the effects of the over consumption of sugar are killing us and effecting the health of our culture and children.
Sugar and children
Our sugar culture is having a horrible impact on our children. Children are now more overweight than they have ever been in history. Children are developing conditions such as:
- Hypertension
- High Cholesterol
- Diabetes
- Cancer
Sugar and body fat (abdominal fat deposits)
The abdominal fat deposits are also known as “omentum fat” . In addition to growing as a result of sugar consumption and metabolic imbalances, Omentum fat may do the following:
1) Prevent your kidneys from working properly. Without proper kidney function, it is difficult to regulate blood pressure. This leads to hypertension. Hypertension is a risk factor for heart attack, stroke and more.
2) It will make more LDL and Less HDL which patches up holes in arteries. This increases your chances of developing heart disease.
3) Blocks insulin which can lead to diabetes. Diabetes can be a life threatening, severely debilitating disease.
Sugar and hormones
In Men, testosterone from testicles is converted to estrogen. Belly fat and chest fat in men can contribute to, and are signs of feminization from the increase in conversion of testosterone to estrogen. This can also affect a man’s libido, which in turn can negatively impact relationships and marriages.
In women, the endocrine imbalances caused by being overweight wreaks havock on their bodies as well. The organs that are sensitive to increases in estrogen include:
- the ovaries
- the breasts
- uterus
When these organs are overexposed to estrogen as a result of being overweight and omentum fat, they begin to overgrow or proliferate, which can lead to cancer. This is why these organs are much more prone to develop cancer in women who are overweight.
Avoiding sugar is a very simple way to improve your health.
